Set the scene
During the summer, Montauk is split between two worlds: the down-to-earth surfers here for the waves and the glitzy Manhattanites here for the party.
Don’t be mistaken, The Surf Lodge is a scene. But it’s a fun one. Come here when you want to dance the night away to good music in a beautiful setting with fashionable people.

The backstory
Surf Lodge founder Jayma Cardoso, a self-made businesswoman who moved from Brazil to New York City at age 19 and worked in bars to put herself through college, purchased the former motel in 2008. It quickly rose to become the “East End's ultimate cool-kid mecca,” as the New York Post once described it.

The Rooms
The Surf Lodge’s unassuming motel-like exterior doesn’t do the luxe guest rooms justice. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my room’s understated coastal decor (think Tulum meets modern Hamptons beach house) and gorgeous bathroom with natural stone tile and a rainwater shower that I enjoyed so much, for so long, that the steam set of the room’s smoke alarm… twice.

food and drink
The Surf Lodge introduced a new restaurant in summer 2024 called Casa Sereña. It’s led by culinary up-and-comer chef Robert Sieber (you might recognize him from Summer House, or his pop-up NYC sandwich shop Clubhouse Sandos & Suds).

Eco effort
This summer, The Surf Lodge launched a new community initiative: an artist-in-residency program that gives up-and-coming artists the opportunity to stay at The Surf Lodge while pursuing a creative project and showcasing their work at the hotel throughout the summer.
We are committed to creating unique experiences and memorable moments that inspire discovery and leave a lasting impression on our guests. We are closed for the season but we hope to see you next Memorial Day Weekend in Montauk, or come visit us this winter at The Snow Lodge Aspen!
